the prime minister’s spoon

The past election’s campaign caused my children to ask why the red and blue signs were all over our neighbourhood. We explained that we were voting for the next government, and the blue sign on our lawn meant we were supporting the Conservatives. After the Conservatives won a minority government on Monday, we told them how the “blue guys” had won.

I didn’t realize how carefully they were listening until a few days later Mikaela asked if she could eat her cereal with “the prime minister’s spoon”. I had no idea what she meant, so she pulled out both a blue and a red spoon out of the drawer, and told me the blue one was the prime minister’s spoon, and the red one belonged to the ‘bad’ guys.
